Yes, I get you have goals to achieve and dreams to accomplish, but your total existence shouldn't be based on just working. You also need YOU time; you need family and friends time. While it might seem to be using your time in an unproductive manner, believe me when I say it isn't, and I'll prove it to you.

Look back on times in your life when you probably felt down, or at least, not feeling your usual self. And in a few minutes, you suddenly feel energized after talking to a friend or family. I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen to me alone.

Sometimes, you might not even have to hold a conversation with them; just their presence or smile was enough to lighten your spark.

While we are with family and friends, we are mostly able to be closer to our truest selves; we laugh unapologetically; we eat without feeling anyone is looking at us; we play, jest, and feel free and alive.

Spending quality time with family and friends gives us power—an energizing one; it makes us feel like our battery has been recharged. Spending quality time is simply self-care.

After working all week, our weekend is supposed to be for us, to care for ourselves. Weekend self-care, have a lovely one!

I'm Ibraheem Abdulsamiu Olanrewaju, but call me Iwaju. I'll be talking about self-care every Saturday to help you prioritize yourself during the weekends. Don't miss it!

How do you spend your weekends?
